Clean Up
[edit]The article was rather non-encyclopedic, including a fair bit of flowery language and material that could be taken as non-neutral (i.e. POV). I have tidied it up as best I can, reflecting the factual (non-opinion) information in the references. While Edhi appears to be a fantastic individual who has done an amazing amount for the poor and needy, it is important to remember the purpose of the encyclopedia (presenting facts and not opinions and praise) and Wikipedia policy (that all information must be verifiable). This particularly important for biographies of living people. Wikipeterproject (talk) 18:40, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
- Cannot say the article is thoroughly edited but I removed almost all the text that does not belong in an encyclopedia and changed the structure slightly to remove the flowery language. Still need great deal of cop-editing. For now I have removed the POV tag. Samar (Talk . Contributions) 13:33, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Quote deletion
[edit]Deletion of quotes of Edhi from his page is a misunderstanding. Manifesting his code of life stating that "My religion is humanitarianism, which is the basis of every religion in the world." In fact this quote is core of his life he followed during his life. So this quote be restored. For reference page Philanthropy may be studied. Nannadeem (talk) 14:09, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
- I agree. I wanted to find a quote by Edhi. I looked in wikiquote but didn't find an entry on Edhi -- maybe someone should write one! His idea is expressed here as, "No religion is above humanity." Another version is: "No religion is higher than humanity." Oaklandguy (talk) 08:45, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

Date of birth?
[edit]The article says born 28. february 1928 but source of this says 1. January 1928? Either the source is wrong and should be removed or the date of birth in the article should be corrected. --Thomas (talk) 08:24, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- Confusing. Several media reports earlier reported he was born on 1 January. Someone added his DOB as 28 February without any credible source on 16 January. I wonder if Google took his DOB from Wikipedia, if that's the case, it would be shocking. Now everyone including those who earlier reported his DOB as 1 January reporting that he was born 28 February. Wikipedia in other languages, including Urdu Wikipedia, still list his DOB as 1 January. --Saqib (talk) 08:54, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- Shocking? Of course Google does that, like everyone else. However, the 1 January date is also dubious. That may have been his "legal" birthday, but it appears he himself didn't know his real one (see https://books.google.com/books?redir_esc=y&id=hwHlAAAAMAAJ&focus=searchwithinvolume&q=1928). Mewulwe (talk) 10:02, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Mewulwe: So how to maintain his DOB it on Wikipedia? As per latest news reports (28 February) or older ones (1 January) or what? --Saqib (talk) 10:47, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- As it is now, without any specific date. Mewulwe (talk) 11:15, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

- Apologies for changing it before checking the talk page. Thanks to Saqib for reverting. Scolaire (talk) 12:28, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- No worries Scolaire! @Mewulwe:: I approached The Sun, Wired and Metro over this issue and all of them have made some changes to their news pieces. Wired wrote: "Previous reports, including those surrounding his funeral, state Edhi was born on January 1. An obituary in The Guardian doesn't list a birthday date, simply putting circa 1926. The date January 1 can, at times, be used in place of a specific date when only a year is known, but this tends to be avoided due to the confusion it can cause. The Wikipedia entry was then updated following the release of the Google Doodle referencing various places which use January 1 as the date. However, Google has since told WIRED it got the February 28 date directly from Edhi's family.".

- The Sun story reads "Google says Edhi celebrated his birthday on February 28, however reports suggest he was in fact born on January 1."
- Metro noted : "There has been uncertainty about when his birthday is. Some have reported it as 1 January in the past – however, now it is widely believed to be 28 February."
- But The Nation reported today that Bilquis Edhi, the wife of Edhi in an interview to a TV channel said 'We never even celebrated his birthday while he was alive. We were unaware of the day he was born." This makes thing uncertain and the birth mystery goes on. --Saqib (talk) 17:41, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- I think that only listing the year may be the best solution given the sources. The "Date of birth" subsection is probably undue. --Ronz (talk) 22:38, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Ronz: I don't see harm in having a separate section on DOB. DOB matter received press coverage so why not ? I think it gives due weight and well explain the sides. --Saqib (talk) 22:45, 2 March 2017 (UTC)
- I agree, but it's much too large, much too detailed.
- While having a section may be due, I think some if the information might be better in a footnote as in Lee_Grant#cite_note-birth_year_note-1. --Ronz (talk) 16:27, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
- No worries. Plunge forward and do it as you like. --Saqib (talk) 16:35, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
- If someone wants to work on it, I'm happy to help. Otherwise I'll wait until the RfC is closed. --Ronz (talk) 17:50, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

Time in London?
[edit]The section on the foundation states "During his time in London, Edhi resolved to dedicate his life to aiding the poor". This makes it sound as though the idea for the foundation was conceived at a time that he lived in London, which would be incorrect. As far as I'm aware his humanitarian work and resolve to establish a charity while in Karachi where he spent the majority of his life. 84.67.71.142 (talk) 12:56, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
